Sludge pond containment using CSV Wolfgang Oltmanns and Hans-Günther Dymek Abstract This paper presents the technical solutions of in situ containment of substrates in a sludge pond filled with materials of various chemico-physical properties. In order to establish containment and to reduce pollution as well as the operational costs, it was decided to install a capping system. To achieve the necessary bearing capacity of the basins and the proper functioning, the substrates had to be stabilized by combined soil stabilization using vertical columns (‘CSV’).
