Judith Nathanail

Judith Nathanail, BA BSc MSc FRGS FGS, is Company Secretary and a Principal Environmental Consultant with Land Quality Management Ltd. She has over 18 years’ experience of contaminated land, and has managed numerous phase 1 and phase 2 risk assessments. She has extensive field experience in design, supervision, management of site investigations, and logging soils to BS5930. She has advised on risk management, and been involved in a range of remediation projects, including excavation and disposal, soil vapour extraction, air sparging, and one of the first bioremediation schemes in the UK. She has taught courses on topics including conceptual models, geology, site investigation, risk assessment and risk management. She has worked for Wimpey Laboratories, Wimpey Environmental, Delta Simons, and for LQM since 1998. She is a past Chair of the East Midlands Regional Group of the Geological Society, and has been on the Business Practice Group of the Association of Geotechnical Specialists since 2002.


Paul Bardos

Professor Paul Bardos is managing director of r3 Environmental Technology Ltd, established in 1997, which offers a range of research, management and consultancy services in contaminated land and waste management. He is also Special Professor in Environmental Engineering at the University of Nottingham and a Visiting Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Reading. In 1987, he was awarded a PhD by the University of Reading, after a BSc in Biology from the University of Southampton. He was one of the UK scientific representatives to CLARINET (Contaminated Land Rehabilitation Network for Environmental Technologies in Europe), and a NATO/CCMS Fellow; he is currently a member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Society for General Microbiology, and the British Society for Soil Science. He is also a member of NICOLE and the EUGRIS project teams.


Paul Nathanail

Paul is Professor of Engineering Geology at the University of Nottingham, and Managing Director of Land Quality Management Ltd (www.lqm.co.uk). His research, teaching and consultancy interests span the spectrum of risk-based contaminated land management and sustainable urban regeneration. LQM are known for their work in training regulators and consultants, and in peer reviewing reports for local authorities and developers. They pioneered the use of bioaccessibility in UK human health risk assessment, and worked with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health to publish generic assessment criteria for 31 substances in 2006. Paul is a Specialist in Land Condition and a member of the UK DEFRA Contaminated Land Forum and IPMNet’s steering committee. He is a director of the European network CABERNET (Concerted Action on Brownfield and Economic Regeneration Network).
